Today can be a day of mixed emotions. There will be some of us whilst recognising and celebrating the love for our own mothers are hiding an inner sadness at not having our own children.
Whilst giving birth makes someone a mother it does not automatically qualify them as a good mother. Caring, loving, guiding and nurturing are qualities that are important to raising a child. How many of you have used these qualities on children around you? We nurture our siblings, extended family and pets. We nurture through our jobs and in nature. Just because we have not given birth does not mean that we do not nurture.
So today nurture yourself. If you need to grieve, release that pain. Equally if you want to celebrate being a fur-mum, enjoy the day. Remember that you are worthy for just being you and that tomorrow this day will have passed.
