Whales

Mother humpback whales and their calves communicate to each other through soft squeaks and grunts, which are much quieter than other humpback vocalisations. It is thought that by “whispering”, mums are able to keep track of their calves while the soft sounds make it harder for potential predators like orcas to hear them

I had those ambitions to whisper

to my baby

Deep inside

as deep as the dark blue sea.

They were soft wishes

private wishes for me and them

as soft as a whisper.

I took it for granted,

I always thought id have the chance to try.

Not to be.

The pain a few years on has moved

From clear and present

To a deeper place

Within or beyond?

Its new,

sometimes I don’t recognize it

Deep grief

As deep as the dark blue sea

So painful it transforms it-self into something else

It’s my child’s cry, It’s my screams

From within or beyond.
