Falling

I’m clinging on. Can’t look down.

Loosening grip. Help!

Someone help?

Anyone there?

Silence.

Falling,

Falling, further and further down

Into an abyss.

How could I fall so far?

Darkness surrounds me.

No-one is there.

Loneliness and fear.

I call out

Anyone there?

Silence.

Alone and scared

Anger too

Why me?

What did I do wrong?

Stumbling around in the dark.

Lost. Very lost and very alone

In this abyss that I have found myself in.

How? Why?

Fog descends. Thick fog

Swirling around.

Lost. Completely alone.

How long?

Days, weeks, months.

Let’s sleep now.

A nightmare?

No, I wake

In the same abyss,

The same fog as I stumble along

Lost and alone.

And then, one day,

A ray of sunlight

It’s small but it gleams.

It sparkles too.

In the distance.

I can see others stumble too

Towards the sunlight.

‘Wait’, I cry.

Wait for me!

A smile, a hand

Let’s walk together.

No longer alone.

There are others too

Lost like me and heading for the sun.

Heading for hope

Hoping for joy.
