Who Rescues Who?

A discussion on rescue pets and the rescuing effect they have had on us in our grief.

They are a living being that relies on us, that we are able to fulfil some of our nurturing needs on, make us laugh and make the world a better place to be. They are something to come home to when you live your own, something that is happy to see you.

DATE: Wednesday 18th September

PANELLISTS

Elaine Ritchie - UK

I live in Kent in the UK with my rescue cat Oscar who is my world. For my job, I work as a cancer nurse specialist to keep Oscar in the life to which he has become accustomed to. Oscar and his brother Otis came into my life 6 years ago to help me heal from bereavement.

Little did I know at the time that I would also become childless and that they would also become part of my childless journey.

I'm counting the time until I can retire to Devon where I would like to have a couple of rescue dogs that I can take walking on the moors, to the beach and allow them to live their best life. I would also like to rescue older cats, so they don't spend their last days in a shelter but are warm, comfy and loved as they deserve.

Ruth Eyre- UK

Ruth Eyre, 37, resides in the peaceful Sleepy Town in the UK.

I work in the care and support sector, where I bring compassion and dedication to the role.

Outside of work, I enjoy walking my dog and staying active through regular exercise. My love for the outdoors and commitment to fitness are key aspects of my lifestyle, allowing me time to recharge and find balance in my life.

Jo Roberts - UK

Jo Roberts is a dog-mum, living in Cumbria, where she is writing her memoir-in-progress, Motherhood, Millie, & Me - A life-affirming journey of re-defining hope.

Founder of Writing Inside Out, Book Coach, and Mentor, she empowers writers to explore, shape, and share their stories. And loves seeing people blossom.

Having experienced miscarriage, unexplained infertility, & childlessness, she knows what it’s like to stand on the edge, looking in. But, with a background in outdoor leadership and personal growth, she also believes in the power of nature to lift spirits and meet challenge.

When not writing, she mostly roams the fells, swims in the waters, and navigates this thing called life.

Originally from Romania, Millie-Dog now loves her life in the UK and is in charge of walks, breaks, and fun. They rescued each other in 2019, under the sparkling lights of a Christmas tree.
