A letter to Little Me

Little lady, you have a fantastic life ahead of you and it is not what you expected.

You grow up not liking yourself very much, you’re a chubby little kid and this impacts on your confidence and self-esteem, you grow up believing your not good enough and your teen years are a little difficult, but you make some good friends for life.

You have something in you, something bigger than most in your late teens, you find your feet, you find your confidence and you find yourself. You’re not the pretty kid or super super clever, but you’re a great person. You learn by your mistakes and never afraid to have a go or take a risk.

Your 20’s are great, you go on holiday with your mates, get started in your career and then meet your hubby to be. It starts to get difficult when he is diagnosed with bowel cancer, but he is an amazing man and he recovers and you get married! As your friends start to have their own families in late 20’s 30’s, this is something you both want as well. The doctors tell you both he can’t have his own children due to cancer. This is very tough for you to go through sweety, but you do get through it and support each other.

You start on your journey to try and have a family, you learn you have cysts and fibroids and have an operation that seems to make things worse. Adoption isn’t an easy process and as simple as people say, you learn IVF is just as awful. You learn there is more to sperm and egg donation than you thought and you both decide after a very difficult period that you cannot go on anymore and you need to get your happy lives back. As empty shells, you both come through it with the help of amazing family and friends. Don’t be afraid to seek help, speak to a counsellor, you will need to search for support as it is there, you just have to find it my little lovely.

As you approach your 40’s you are the best version of yourself. You have an incredible career working with an amazing team, you have the best people you can ask for as friends and your family are amazing. It doesn’t stop being hard, there are things that continue to happen, such as early menopause, but you are now a resilient human who can get through it all and you are so grateful for what you have experienced because you have met some beautiful souls who are your friends for life and your marriage is stronger than ever.

Your life is incredible, don’t be afraid to try, have a go, take a risk, but mostly, don’t be afraid to give up. The strongest people know when to let go and move on. You will go through a lot and you will experience both bad and good but you will learn so much about yourself.

I love you little lady.

Your always

Leah Brette
