World Childless Week 2019
Men Matter Too
Men do not talk so openly or share their emotions so readily about being childless; they are often the unseen and unheard halves of our story. Today we are going to focus on men and their words because men matter too.
Join World Childless Week Champions Michael, Robin and Rod with new voices on Thursday.
Your words and videos on Men Matter Too
In this very moving video, Michael is interviewed by his wife Vickie, about his thoughts on male infertility and their life as a childless not by choice couple.
Men Matter Too; Yes, I think I’m starting to believe that a little. I’m 62 yrs old now. By the time my wife was in her mid forties we had pretty much given up on having a child, and it never did happen. I was devastated at the thought. For many years the feelings came and went, it wasn’t a constant pressure on my mind. I never thought to talk to anyone back then about it. Who would I talk to?
“Have you got any children?” or “I’m a new dad/grandfather”. I get these all the time, in pretty much all social settings I find myself in. It used to grate but as it is so ubiquitous, I just get on with it these days. It has left me feeling, however, that there is - without doubt - a bias towards success as a man being defined by the production of at least one child.
“It felt like I had to take part. And then I was floored as I was asked to say a little about myself. I'm childless, is there more?”
Welcome to Men Matter too. Today we’re talking all about what it’s like to experience childlessness as a man.
