Why I am a World Childless Week Champion by Lesley Pyne

Isolation and feeling alone are extremely common when you’re childless, especially believing that you’re the only who feels a particular way.

I believe that bringing together so many of us, from all over the world, to have big conversations will normalise a lot for those who are struggling with these feelings.

When we stopped treatment 16 years ago there were very few resources available and particularly role models we could look up to. Sometimes we’d play the ‘name the childless woman’ game and our answers would include women like Helen Mirren, Dolly Parton and the like. It was all very well to see famous women, but really, what do I have in common with them?

Then I found Pamela Mahoney Tsigdinos, Lisa Manterfield and Tracey Cleantis. When I read Pamela and Lisa’s books I found women like me who were open and honest about what they’d been through and were now writing about ‘life after’ being childless. Reading their stories showed me that I wasn’t alone and, more importantly that it is possible to be happy.

If you can see it you can be it.

I believe that ‘if you can see it you can be it,’ so seeing and reading about men and women like myself who are openly and proudly saying that you CAN be childless and happy is one of the gifts World Childless Week will bring to many men and women across the world.

I know it’s possible to be childless and happy because that’s the life I’m living and I want others to know this too. So by sharing my truth, if I inspire one person to make a change, then that will be fantastic.

And an opportunity

Being a World Childless Week Champion means that I’m one of a group of men and women, brought together with only one purpose, to help others. Which is also very special.

How many communities would bring together such a varied range of bloggers, writers, coaches etc? And not only that each of us is doing what we do best, whether it’s writing, recording videos, providing prizes, for no reward other than knowing that we’re helping you.

So dear reader, this is a gift for you like no other. World Childless Week is an opportunity to read, listen to and watch a range of those who are here to support you, and to join in big conversations.

I encourage you to grab this with both hands and find something or someone who inspires you.

And when you’ve done that, notice how much more hopeful you feel that you too can find your joy.

I look forward to connecting with you during the week and particular on Sunday 16th September: Finding Acceptance and Moving Forward. Also check out the competition where you can win a copy of ‘Finding Joy Beyond Childlessness; Inspiring Stories to Guide You to a Fulfilling Life’.
