Cup of Life

Mina

This is a painting I made over 20 years ago. I had taken a few months of work to undergo IVF. I started painting as a form of therapy.

This image developed as I painted. At first I wanted to depict a female and her womb. My feminine point of creation. The womb full of potential. A hope of life being created.

It never happened for me. Us.

My husband and I. We were not able to conceive.

My womb designed to create and nurture life. With so much potential, was empty. An empty golden chalice.

The blood red female body morphed her head into a male penis. Her head now a phallic symbol which was designed to impregnate her to create a new life.

A golden womb with golden sperm. So much potential. And in the end, an empty cup of life.
