Whilst growing up in a Caribbean household there was the expectation that I’d get a good job, get married and have children in that order. I was ambivalent about becoming a mum so the sadness I felt at 43 when I heard the words ‘unexplained infertility’surprised me along with the overwhelming shame I felt at having 2 terminations in my 20’s. The Plan B Mentorship programme unlocked my grief where my book Dreaming of a Life Unlived was conceived. This book helped me to heal and gave us childless women our voices back.
My Plan B is about finding my voice which I am accomplishing as a blogger at ‘finding my plan B’, as a public speaker being interviewed on numerous radio and television programmes and an activist for childless women of colour. At 50 I am divorcing and unashamedly living the life that my younger self dreamed of.
