In May 2022, the Diversity Council of Australia hosted a pioneering event - Workplace Inclusion for People who are Childless not by Choice. Further Diversity Council of Australia event promotional details:
Many organisations are doing a lot to make their workplaces more inclusive for people with children. But how can workplaces be more inclusive of people who are childless not by choice (CNBC)?
Being unable to have children for whatever reason can lead to incredible pain and grief, as well as a sense of not fitting in to a world where becoming a parent is expected. What’s more, people who are CNBC can feel socially isolated and find it hard to talk on the subject as there is a lot of shame, guilt and stigma associated with it.
Whilst there is no definitive Australian data on CNBC, it is estimated to affect 1.4 billion people worldwide.
At our next Gender Equality Network event, we will discover how organisations can acknowledge CNBC as a workplace inclusion issue.
The event included a discussion panel of four childless not by choice speakers: Michael Hughes (a World Childless Week Ambassador), Judy Graham, Liz Campbell and Sarah Roberts panellist and keynote presenter.
Whilst the panel discussion is available to DCA members only, the link to Sarah’s keynote presentation is publicly available here - https://vimeo.com/711066537/5e8623cf2f
We’d love to hear how this talk resonates for you and your workplace experiences as a childless not by choice employee. We hope your workplace experiences are supportive and inclusive of your CNBC experiences.
Join us, there is much work to be done to bring about social, workplace and cultural change to promote inclusion for CNBC people in our workplaces and communities.
Take care
