Love Remains

The outstretched hands in the 4th verse are those of the Gateway Women community.

Where did I go?

I hardly know

During those years

Where becoming a mother was everything

Getting pregnant

Having a baby

Being a mum

Was what mattered most to me

Life was all about if and when

A life beyond motherhood?

Unliveable

Unthinkable

Unimaginable

Out of the dark grief

New meaning whispers

Acceptance takes my hand

The whispers get louder

Slowly releasing the tight grip of my hand

And finding

Many hands outstretched

Reaching out

People who understand

“We see you, we hear you, we’ve got you”

And here I am

Living that unliveable life

That unthinkable life

That unimaginable life

As a childless person

Coming home

Back to myself

Unbecoming

Who I thought I should be

As time passes

Remorse and recriminations start to fade

But the love remains

The what ifs and should haves ease

And the love remains

The love for the children I never had
