Baby Girl

I have felt the love in holding you my precious baby girl
I've touched your face and kissed your hand and promised you the world
I've woken in the dark of night just to watch you sleep
To stroke your cheek, to hold you tight, those memories to keep
We've looked into each other's eyes in perfect silent calm
A mother's love is all you need to keep you safe from harm

My baby girl you never were to lay here by my side
That chance of love was swept away by my life's thieving tide
I close my eyes and search for you in an ever darkening night
I hear your cry but can't get close and now you're out of sight

Please tell me what I am to do with the mother's love I own
When I can't see past the loss and grief of being so alone
There is nothing in this endless world my emptiness to fill
It's all too late too sad too hard to even find the will

My baby girl I'll strive for peace in this dark and lifeless land
The hardest part is letting go of your tiny precious hand
Call me mummy one last time as I must start to heal
One day I know, I will, once more, allow myself to feel
