To the Child We'll Never Meet

We were so excited to meet you.
We could picture your smiling face
We thought of how you’d look and sound
We were told you’d basically run the place

We knew your name, girl or boy
We knew you’d bring us all the joy
Our little family would finally be complete
All it would take is for us to meet.

Then the doctors gave us the news
The news that shattered our world
If we ever were to meet, they said
We’d need to find a pot of gold

And though we searched for answers
None ever came to be
Our dream became so distant
Becoming that little family

We were so excited to meet you
But we could picture life unfold
Not being able to give you the life you deserve
Our little family growing distant and cold

We wish we could’ve met you
And shown you in person all our love
But we love you oh so deeply
It’s better you stay up above

Heaven will keep you safe
We’ll miss you here on Earth
And when we meet above the clouds
You’ll see our love has always been loud.
