A Life Unexpected
Amanda Pettit
Keep that vision in your mind
A rainbow miracle to hold.
If I think it, I can do it.
Isn't that what I've been told?
"I'm sure we'll get it next timeā¦"
Months to years and then another
"Don't quit yet, you've come this far
You'll be such a lovely mother."
Infertility was not my choice
The outcome never in my hands.
My capacity has now been reached
And yet no one understands.
They always have an answer
It doesn't matter what it costs
"I'm sure there's still a path for you -
You can always just adopt."
Acceptance of my circumstance,
Acknowledging my grief
Can ease the state I'm living in
More than you might believe.
The tears will dry, I'll find resolve
Embracing ways to stay connected.
Head held high, I'm moving forward
Living my life, unexpected.
