World Childless Week

Owls by Marie

I wrote this song to try to express feelings I was/am having about my own childlessness.

I never thought for a minute that I wouldn't have a child of my own, but I waited to try to conceive and, as it turns out, I waited too long.

Seeing publications about IVF successes and celebrity pregnancies happening later in life only strengthened the false idea I had that I'd be fine. The disillusionment now is overwhelming and I'm a little bit lost at the moment about it. This is my first time addressing the meaning of this song publicly, as it's so personal to me and I'm still deep in it.

Owls

It's getting down to the wire, it's the hour of the moon
Down to the wire, gotta choose which way soon

But where do I go from here?
Oh, the owls are speaking yet I have my eyes closed
And which pages do I read?

Everything's always in transition
Molecules push to meet in a new position

But where do I go from here?
Oh, the owls are speaking yet I have my eyes closed
And which pages should I read?

Who, who knew I was search of this?
The infant kiss has always been last on my list
Strange, time is having her way,
Strange, suddenly it's a race
Suddenly everything's in transition
